tranny will be shipped to TRE thursday/friday next week, TRE said they need it for a week at max, so we're estimating to have it done by the 8-10th of Jan.

I always heard that the tranny was a weak point on the Evo's. Sucks that it happened to you.

You having anything done to it while the tranny is out?

Well the 5speed evo's have hardly no issues, I mean when the guys start to push 500whp, some things just dont last and need to be upgraded of course.

The weakest link on the 6speeds is the 4th gear, they been known to "explode" after some agressive track use or well simply again too much power, in my case its just extremely odd, since all the other gears function just like they did except 6th gear is gone.

Just getting the clutch and Jon @ TRE said we will discuss what my options are on upgrades (4th gear, 6th gear and syncro's and the cost involved) after he gets my tranny and inspects it.

Really? Only thing that seems to be the weak issues that I cought onto over the years was the OEM clutch and OEM brake pads.

Early (02-03) WRX Impreza's here in the US had tranny issues since many owners loved the hard AWD launches Laughing

Yep, weak spot is the OEM clutch and well there are issues known to the 6speed but most are from high horsepower or tracking the car.

I personally am not a big fan of centrifugal superchargers for Hondas. The rev band is just too broad for them to really be geared to their best. Also, I really like the linear power band of a positive displacement supercharger. With a centrifugal kit its going to have a much steeper power curve. On top of that the kits are all still in development, so nobody really knows what kind of power they are going to develop.

If I was looking at a supercharging a car now I would be waiting anxiously on the developments from Redshift motorsports with their intercooled lysholm based superchargers. Look for the thread in the supercharged section over on CRSX.

Keep in mind, I'm not saying they are bad, just not my choice. It all really depends on what you want the car for. If you want a highway blaster then go with a turbo like Kris, or maybe a centrifugal supercharger. If you want a mountain road carver/autocross machine/road course car, then look for one of the positive displacement superchargers, either the old JRSC, or the new Lysholm blower from Redshift.

Well, I'm just wanting something with more performance. Not really an autocross machine or a road course machine. I don't see me tracking the car all that much if any. I guess for what I want, boost may be what I need to look into. Just something with more power to hang with you...

If I were in your shoes right now what I would do is wait and see what happens with that Lysholm blower. They have announced a release date of January 20 I believe, so you know something is coming out pretty soon. If that makes the power I think it is capable of there is your answer right there. However if there is a problem with it then I would seriously consider a Turbo kit, probably the Greddy kit like Kris. It will give you all the power you are looking for, and you have the advantage of having a local friend that has it, and has run into all the problems already, so you know some of the things not to do. Smile

Yeah, I've decided if I go boost, it will be a greddy. I'm also not in a hurry either. It will be late '07 maybe when I do decide.
